A visit to the Department of Conservation ‘s outstanding Visitors Centre is a must before heading out on any of the World renown alpine walking tracks. The welcoming staff provide advice and answer questions about the weather, terrain, and essentials to back pack. The first sight of Blue Lake is breathtaking. Documented evidence suggests that its waters are the cleanest natural fresh water in the World. (No swimming allowed!)
